There are many reasons that people study martial
arts. Some like the physical fitness and weight loss some like the
discipline and others are looking for the self-defense aspects of
karate. East Taunton Kenpo Karate can fit all your needs. We work
with adults as well as children to help them reach their full potential.

LITTLE DRAGONS AGES 4-7
Students are 4-7 years old. This program covers
Life skills, and martial arts skills! Such as fire, first aid, home,
traffic, weather and stranger safety skills. Balance, listening,
discipline, memory, cooperation life skills, and blocks, kicks, punches
strikes, and tumbling with Martial Arts skills!
CHILDREN'S BEGINNER PROGRAM AGES 7-12
This program is the next step from little dragons.
It's a continuation of the little dragon program with more advanced
self-defense techniques and forms. Homework required as well as
presentation skills, self-control and confidence. Testing from solid
yellow through purple belt. Classes consist of stretching, cardio, and
physical fitness. As well as Basics, Forms, self defense techniques and
very light sparring in a fun and non competitive atmosphere. Classes end
with a “martial arts skill game”. Each class has a minimum of two certified
Black Belts on the floor at all times. Upon completion of purple belt
testing, the student is ready for a smooth transition into the children's
intermediate class. All of the requirements for this level are also needed
when they continue on to the adult level.
CHILDREN'S INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM AGES 7-12
This program begins at the purple belt level
and continues to children's green belt. The training in traditional
weapons begins with the bo/staff. Self control is a major factor in
this level and self defense level increases. Class consists of
stretching, cardio and physical fitness, as well as Empty hand forms
and bo forms. Basics and self defense requirements. Sparring is
encouraged and closely monitored by Trained Black Belts. We have a
minimum of two trained and certified Black Belts on the floor at all
times for your childs safety and assistance. We stress co-operation,
patience, self confidence and goal setting. The Children are challenged
to be aware that success comes from hard work, and not only because they
are liked! The children begin to see that nothing is gained from
quitting! They are also made aware that to fail at something is ok!
We all know that Babe Ruth hit 714 home runs but who knows he struck
out 1,330 times!! Set small goals and enjoy the success in reaching them!
CHILDREN'S ADVANCED CLASS
This class begins at red and continues to first
degree Brown. All previous skills are fine tuned. Self defense and
self control are expected. The student is trained to be aware of their
surroundings, avoiding chance to become victims. They are considered
junior Leaders, and are allowed the opportunity to train as assistants
in Dragons, and Beginner Classes. Tournament Competition is encouraged.
The body of the class consists of stretching, cardio and physical fitness.
Perfection of basics, empty hand forms and weapon forms to include, Bo,
Nun chuk, sai sword, spear, broadsword, Kail sticks, and kama. Self
defense against grabs, holds, kicks, punches and strikes with empty hand
and clubs. Wrist locks, arm bars and take downs are introduced to allow
control without impacting. Sparring with full safety gear is mandatory
to help train the student in timing, and control, and assist in confidence
building. Each class has a minimum of two certified Black Belt Adults
Instructing the class at all times. Studies have shown a person that is
consistently training as close to reality as safely possible will be less
likely to have a fear of being hit, and choose the correct response
during a confrontation that elicits the fight, freeze or flight scenario.
JUNIOR BLACK BELT CLASS
This program is for the most dedicated children,
having completed all beginner, intermediate and advanced children’s
requirements, who are now ready to learn the adult information. The student
is taught all the adult forms and sets, and all required adult self
defense techniques. The student is given theory training as well as physical.
The students are offered the opportunity to train to become Instructors
in the beginner, intermediate and advanced classes. The student wears a
Black Belt with gold lettering to include school insignia, last name, and
gold stripes for each of five levels. Upon completion of the five levels
the student is tested by the ETKK testing board and awarded an adult
Black Belt with red insignia, and will be inducted for a smooth transition
into the adult advanced class. This is the field where the leaders of the
future grow, both in the community and in the martial arts of tomorrow!
ALL LEVEL ADULT CLASS
During this class we train from white through
Green belt requirements of the Parker based systems. Classes begin with
stretching, cardio work and physical conditioning exercises. Drills with
hand pads wave masters and shields to achieve a high degree of cardio
exercise, and to allow the student to learn the correct hand and foot
positions to achieve maximum results! We perform basics, empty hand and
weapon forms, as well as self defense techniques against grabs holds, locks,
punches kicks and strikes. Students are encouraged to Spar, with Black Belts
at first and with each other as their skill and control increases. There is
a minimum of two certified Adult Black Belts directing the class at all times.
Students gain the knowledge of the rules and principals of Kenpo as they apply
to motion. Kenpo adjusts to the Student and not the Student to Kenpo. Goal
setting is recommended. Instructor Training is introduced generally at Green
Belt, and Students of all styles and levels are accepted. There will never be
any negative comments against any other school or martial art allowed in this
Dojo. Respect, courtesy and self control is expected or the student is
directed to leave. We are a “family” martial arts Academy.
ADVANCED ADULT CLASS
This class is for Brown through all levels of Black Belt.
The class consists of stretching, cardio and physical fitness at a high level
of intensity! Basics, empty hand and weapon forms. Self defense techniques
against kicks, punches, strikes, grabs, locks holds, clubs, knives, guns, long
and short barrel, revolver and automatic. All techniques are fine tuned and
reality based moving from “ideal phase” to “reality phase”. Multiple attackers
are introduced with and/or without weapons. Enrollment in our Grappling class
is strongly recommended! At this level hand to hand altercations are trained
from extreme zones to “in your face” zones, on to takedown and final submission
zones. Sparring is more technical, using defense, offense, and counter offensive
tactics. Students are trained to not think but adjust to the situation as it is
presented, using only enough force to resolve the conflict.
BRAZILLIAN JIU JITSU
This class is run by Andre Dedeco Almeida from Brazil. He
is a third degree Gracie Black Belt. Students are trained in Gi and no Gi
submission, from MMA standup to takedown to suppression. The class consists of
stretching and cardio, as well as physical fitness. Self defense Techniques are
drilled repetitiously, and then applied while “rolling” for the last half of
the class. Rank begins at white belt, and proceeds through blue, purple, brown
and then Black. The process takes about 6 years.
THE ULTIMATE BODYSHAPING COURSE: for adults
is a 10-week session that focuses on basic nutrition, flexibility; an "aerobic"
workout to build up cardio vascular endurance and an "anaerobic" workout to tone
and compact your body. The great thing about this course is anyone can participate
while you work at your own pace! UBC is an easy fitness regiment to stick with and
an excellent lifestyle habit!
FITNESS KICKBOXING is a total body workout!
This class blends a variety of basic martial art kicks and punches
to a heavy bag. Anyone, young and old, can participate in this
class. You set your own pace! A great way to burn fat, calories
and build up cardio vascular endurance.
RESISTANCE TRAINING WORKOUTS utilize resistance
rubber tubing to isolate and completely fatigue specific muscle groups.
This workout reduces the stress on your joints while developing muscle
strength and increasing endurance. All muscle groups benefit from this
program and you will notice defining results quicker than those achieved
with weightlifting.
UBC FOR KIDS is a 6-week session. Kids have fun
kicking and punching a heavy bag, working their way through obstacle
courses, participating on a team and most of all having a blast! The
program helps kids to learn the importance of fitness and good nutritional
habits.
